Batteries Plus, a specialty retail chain that sells batteries, lighting products, and provides cell phone repair services, opened its new locally owned store in Spring Hill on Oct 11.

The store, located at 4816 Main Street Suite J, sells a variety of batteries for almost any need.

Batteries Plus also provides automotive service needs, such as free car battery testing and installations, battery-powered wheelchairs, hearing aids, thermometers, and generators.

Phone repair service is also offered for broken and cracked screens.

The new Batteries Plus is locally owned and operated by Rod Sampson and his daughter, Jessica DeAssiz. Sampson, the owner, is in charge of most of the office work. DeAssiz is the store manager and takes care of day to day operations.

Sampson explained he has always wanted to open a store with his daughter.

“I know zero about retail,” he said. “I thought if I’m going to do something like this, I can’t learn retail from scratch. I’m not interested in being store manager.

“I thought my daughter would be the perfect person. I could trust her. She’s a natural born leader, having had experience in leadership positions in the retail business.”

Sampson said he chose to open Batteries Plus in Spring Hill because of growth and demographics.

“The prices of finding a franchise location is a collaborative effort,” Sampson said.

“There were a few different locations they presented to me. It seemed like Spring Hill had the most growth and demographics to me.”

Sampson added, “There was a good portion of my life when I didn’t think I’d be interested in retail life. It wasn’t until a Batteries Plus franchise advertisement landed in my Google feed at a time when I was actively looking for some type of investment to get into.

“Looking back, I see now that retail does have a place in my investment portfolio.”

The grand opening for Batteries Plus will be Nov 5.
