The Miracle League of Columbia recently announced its proceeds raised from a Songwriters Night event and auction on Saturday, Aug. 13 at Antrim Celebrations in Columbia.
The organization raised $184,000 towards its goal of $1.5 million to build an all-inclusive ballpark and playground at Maury County Park that will serve the needs of special needs children and their families in Columbia and surrounding counties.
The evening included music by songwriters Rory Feek, Wynn Varble, Clint Daniels and Jenny Yates. Special guests included Daniel Uggla, a former Columbia Central High School graduate and MLB player, who is personally donating $250,000 towards this project. Other highlights included motivational speaker HK Derryberry and a live auction administered by auctioneer Eddie Ables.
“It’s time for some kids to be able to play ball and experience a park and a playground that’s for them. We are extremely grateful for the amazing outpouring of support we have had from this community to help us make this dream become a reality,” said Mike Uggla, CEO of the Miracle League board.
The local chapter was formed in 2021 by a group of Columbia natives who had a dream of bringing an all-inclusive Miracle League program and playground to their old stomping grounds in Columbia. The organization is more than halfway to their goal, it has reported.
